If you have Type 1 diabetes, then you will always have to take insulin. However, consuming a healthy diet can reduce the amount of medication that you need and can help you stay healthy. If you have Type 2 or gestational diabetes, then the diet that you eat can eliminate the need for insulin or other diabetes medication at all. Luckily, following these tips can help you consume the diet that is best for your health.

Be Careful About Portion Sizes

First and foremost, it’s important to be careful about portion sizes. Heftier portions can cause you to gain weight, which can make it harder for your body to produce insulin. Plus, although smaller portions of carbohydrates and sugars can be acceptable, these things should be eaten in moderation. One great tip is to invest in smaller dinner plates or to eat off of large saucers. Then, when you fill your plate, you will still be eating a more moderate portion.
